Stanthorpe is known for its mouthwatering produce, outstanding wines and breathtaking natural sceneries. With so much to explore and experience, it’s the perfect destination for your next Granite Belt region getaway. Whether you are a backpacker or a couple interested in taking a break for the weekend, here are some places in town you shouldn’t miss:

Jamworks Gourmet Foods

Every food lover must visit Jamworks. As the name suggests, jam is their specialty. They also offer different kinds of relishes, chutneys, sauces, and pastes. They work directly with local farmers and use locally grown produce wherever possible. Some of their award-winning must-try products include their Red Hot Chilli Relish and Strawberry, Ginger, and Rose Jams.

Tobin Wines

Tobin Wines was started by Adrian Tobin, who started making wines as a hobby and funded it through an international firm he owns. He believes that wines say a lot about winemakers and enjoys the focused and determined process and the meticulous care involved in “growing” wines.

When visiting Tobin Wines, you should definitely try the Merlot. This delicious wine offers savoury, gamey notes with a unique depth that will have you wanting a second glass.

Golden Grove Estate

Golden Grove Estate Vineyard and Winery is located at Ballandean, which is at the heart of Queensland’s premier wine district. This family-owned-and-operated winery is located 820 meters above sea level, making it an ideal location for growing wine grapes. The cooler summer temperature encourages the full development of soft and delicate flavours that are evident in their award-winning wines.

Kominos Wines

Locals and tourists alike will enjoy an authentic experience at Kominos Wines. They have 30-acres of vineyards surrounded by other orchards, fruit trees and vegetables. Their handcrafted wines are packed full of fabulous flavours. Since their grapes are grown just metres away from the cellar door, you will be sure to appreciate the care involved in each bottle.

Ballandean Estate Wines

What makes Ballandean Estate Wines unique is it has one of the longest histories in grape growing and winemaking in the area. Their extensive range of wines will provide visitors the opportunity to try wines from some of the region’s oldest vines.   At the tasting counter, you will likely be welcomed by one of the two Puglisi sisters. Looking for something a little different, be sure to try the Saperavi.  This unique offering is made from a grape variety with origins in Georgia.

Granite Belt Wineries

Another area worth visiting when in Stanthorpe, Queensland is the Granite Belt wine region, recognised as the state’s premier wine-producing area.  It is aptly named given the granite strewn landscape, giving it an extraordinary raw beauty and other-worldly appearance.

With vineyards and wineries scattered all across the Granite Belt, you are sure to find a number that are within easy drive of your chosen accommodation. The region is the ideal location to get introduced to some of the lesser known wine varietals and taste the different styles and flavours that the area is renowned for. Additionally, if you spend several days in the Granite Belt, expect to bring home a carload of fresh produce and other local goodies, like apples, figs, and olives.
